Orders
All Dangerous Goods Jewellery pieces are individually made by Hannah. This means that no two pieces are ever exactly the same. Despite design similarities, each piece develops its own unique organic form and texture in Hannah's hands.
All items available on my web store are existing pieces and will be packaged and shipped within two working days. Most of my pieces are packed in recyclable brown cardboard boxes with fabric offcuts. My mailers are also compostable and recyclable. Reused bubble wrap is sometimes used to make sure your piece is extra safe during shipping.
If you have questions about a piece that is available online please get in touch. I understand that jewellery can be an investment so I want you to feel confident and happy with your piece before purchase.
Sizing
All Dangerous Goods Jewellery ring sizes are measured by British and Australian letter sizes.
This website is really handy for checking or converting your ring size http://www.ringsizes.co/.
If you don't know your ring size you can purchase a sizer from me here, or visit my showroom or a local jewellery store to have it sized for free.
If you are interested in a thicker band please contact me to go through the sizing process as we will need to allow some extra room.
Please make sure you choose the right size as I cannot offer refunds for jewellery ordered too large or too small. If you are unsure I encourage you to go to your local jewellery store and ask them to size you. Most pieces can be made a few sizes larger for a small fee plus postage. Rings can not be made smaller due to the risk of damaging stones.
Care
Please treat your jewellery gently and with care. Sterling silver and gold are softer metals and at a small scale can be delicate. Try not to bend, twist, put large amounts of weight onto, or tug on your pieces. Sometimes chain, sprues or parts of your piece may catch on things such as textiles or hair, please don't tug the piece as it may mishape, break or pull off parts of the metal, take the time to untangle your piece gently.
Stones with a Mohs scale of 7 or above, such as sapphires, rubies, diamonds, tourmaline, amethyst, emeralds, aquamarine, spinels and topaz, are strong and great for everyday wear. Stones below a 7, such as peridot, moonstone, zircon, onyx, and turqouise, will need to be treated a bit more carefully. Hard knocks or drops can damage or crack some gemstones. The softest stones common in jewellery such as opals, amber and pearls, can scratch against abrasive textures, crack and absorb liquids. These softer stones are beautiful and worth the extra effort, just take them off around liquids and oils or when cleaning, gardening, playing sport, building, making jewellery and the like; plus store them in a small bag or box where they won’t get scratched by your other pieces of jewellery.
Aotearoa is largely coastal and because of this it is natural for silver to oxidise/blacken in the salty air. If you live in or visit Rotorua the sulphur has a tendency to turn silver black as well. Wearing your jewellery will help keep it shiny. When you're not wearing a piece you can store it in an airtight container or alongside an anti-tarnish sheet. A metal specific polishing cloth or gem-safe silver dip can also be used to clean your pieces if they become dull. Do not use silver dip on pieces with pearls.
If your piece is intentionally oxidised do your best not to wear it in the shower, ocean, or when washing dishes. Oxidization (blackening) of silver can wear off with time, I am happy to re-oxidize pieces for free if you are able to cover postage and handling.
Pearls are sensitive and best kept out of liquids and away from oils, perfumes, and cleaning products. Take your pearls off when you shower or swim and try not to rest them on your skin where you've just applied moisturiser or perfume.
Feel free to contact me if you would like some further care advice specific to your piece.
Repairs
Dangerous Goods Jewellery values sustainability and therefore encourages repairs of broken or damaged jewellery. Jewellery damaged due to a manufacturing fault will be repaired or replaced free of charge within 3 months of purchase. After 3 months, I happily repair any wear and tear for a fee plus postage and handling. Jewellery is fragile and should be treated gently. Any damage caused by dropping, knocking, bending or crushing your piece, catching or pulling hard on chain; chipped or broken gems; scratched pearls' oxidised or dirtied metal; worn down plating; bent sleepers, hoops or clasps, will involve a small fee for repair. I encourage you to read my care notes above to help look after your piece in the best way possible.
