Lotus Necklace
This necklace features 4 hand sculpted lotus leaf charms and 3 tiny dangling pea pods. A single bright green peridot pierces one leaf referencing the green colour of the charms natural counterparts. A small rice pearl dangles from another reminiscent of a dew drop. The thin cable chain of the necklace links through the centre of each leaf allowing the leaves to be moved up and down the chain. When worn, gravity will cause them to hang in carefully balanced placement, stopped by small round loops that punctuate the chain. The peas dangle from a small length of chain that can be twisted and looped around the main necklace chain, mimicking how peas grown on a vine.
The Lotus Necklace is part of a series of work inspired by flower arrangement. Since returning from overseas I’ve been staying with my parents who are avid gardeners. My Mum is a florist and makes arrangements with flowers from her garden almost daily. I’ve been inspired by her work as well as her collection of floristry books, in particular the unique forms of ikebana. This uncanny pairing of lotus and peas was inspired by an arrangement in one of her vintage ikebana books.
This necklace is adjustable from 40 - 45cm. Links can be added or subtracted to alter this length, just get in touch.
Made by hand by Hannah from 925 sterling silver, a vintage natural peridot, a vintage rice pearl, and machine made chains.
Each piece of Dangerous Goods Jewellery is made individual from start to finish. Although some designs are similar no two pieces will ever be exactly the same as one another.
